Bluetooth What Exactly Is It??
Sure you have heard the name but do you know how the name came about? The man who unified Denmark, Sweden and Norway better known as Harland Blatand (aka Bluetooth) is the person to thank for the catchy title. Rumor has it that he had an uncontrollable craving for blueberries, which have been known to stain ones teeth. Bluetooth also has its logo made from the letters H and B with the runic alphabetic characters for H and B.
Most people are not sure exactly what Bluetooth is or what it can do for them. One might even say that it is a very misunderstood child that was born into this new age of wireless technology. It has been estimated that more than one million Bluetooth devices will be used worldwide and will continue to be on the up rise. Blue tooth can be found in so many products that are out on the market today such as: Personal computers, wireless phones, cameras, handheld devices, cars and even GPS devices.

Even though the name may make it sound like a complicated device but in reality it is a rather simple thing to use. The Bluetooth allows different devices to work with each other by sending information through secure, inexpensive short-wave radio frequencies. This new wireless wonder was first created by Ericsson and then it became formalized in 1999. With this new device in the wireless industry, items such as cell phones, can now communicate with headsets making the call completely hands and wireless. Computers can communicate with keyboards and printers making them wireless as well.

You can make up to seven connections with a Bluetooth at a rate of 1Mbps. There are now even vehicles that can use their cell phones with the Bluetooth installed in the car with the automobiles onboard navigation screen as well as the sound system. The only things you need to make this device work is to have the two devices paired normally allowing them a hassle free connecting process for obtaining a connection which takes just a few seconds. This can be found in almost every menu for wireless connectivity.
Despite popular belief, the only similarity between Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth is that they both use the same range of frequency, which is 2.4 GHz band. Wi-Fi is much more costly and requires more hardware even though it reaches father distances. Bluetooth is just 1/5 of the total range of Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi can connect an entire network where Bluetooth connects two devices together at one time.
You will need to know the basics before you start up your Bluetooth devices. The typical range between the Bluetooth and the device it is to work with is 10 meters or 30 feet. Both of the devices that are to be connected must be using the same versions of Bluetooth. A development group and trade association called SIG or the Bluetooth Special Interest Group will be regularly putting out newer versions of Bluetooth that are very promising many upgrades as well as backward compatibility. One of the best perks in the newest version is that the devices address is hidden making it safe from tracking and identity prying. It also protects against adaptive frequency hopping, which reduces interference as it keeps you clear of the overloaded frequencies. The 2.0 version is to have a great amount of perks as well such as narrow band channels with a higher connection speeds up to 12Mbps. This will allow you to broadcast to more devices without having to worry about the pairing process.
Bluetooth, as well as any other wireless device, has a few minor security issues. Hackers have been known to access the phones commands and have been able to eavesdrop on ones conversations as well as looking at the data saved on the phone. Even though a hacker can do this through a Bluetooth he or she still needs to be in close range with a computer to get to the information. Most companies say that this is only possible with older handsets which are generally only available outside the United States. Most companies are promising that they will have upgrades to their devices to reduce this risk. To help offset the hacker issues Bluetooth devices can now be locked using a code or they can be either put into a hidden mode or even turned off when not in use. One other problem that people may be concerned with is blue jacking which is where someone creates a flirty message and then sends it to another Bluetooth phone as a text message. It is not chargeable as normal text messages over a wireless network.
